Origami Dragon Instructions.
1) These origami dragon instructions start with the
Basic Form 7.
After you have folded Basic Form 7, position the model so that the two full flaps are facing to the left and the two half flaps are pointing to the right.
2) Take hold of the two left tips...
3) ...And gently pull them open...
...So that the top surface is flat.
Here's what it should look like from the side.
4) Now, fold both the front and back points that are sticking straight up, in half as shown...
...So that it looks like this. This is probably the trickiest part of these origami dragon instructions, so do it carefully and don't give up if it doesn't come out right the first time.
5) Fold them both over to the right so that your model looks like this.
6) Turn the model over. Make sure that the left and right tips stay in the same place, don't flip them! Then fold both the upper and lower right edges to meet at the midline of the model. Use the picture for reference. Now, keeping the model in the same position, fold the lower half of the model up along the black line...
7) ...So that the upper and lower edges meet, like this. Fold the left tip of the model up along line 2, so that line 1 runs right along line 3.
8) It should look like this. Now undo the fold...
9) ...And following the crease line that you just made at the end of step 7, fold the left tip inside the model so that line 1 still lines up with line 3. This is what it looks like inside...
10) ...And this is what it looks like from the outside. Notice that the left side now has two flaps, fold the top one over to the right.
Your model will look like this. One thing to remember: your origami dragon will most likely not look exactly like the one in these origami dragon instructions, it just has to resemble it and you'll be fine. One thing that makes origami unique is that no two pieces are exactly the same.
11) Fold both the left and right upper edges to meet at the vertical center line.
12) And then fold the right flap back over to the left again. So far, so good!
13) Let's make the head now! Fold the tip to the left along the black line in the picture in step 12. Don't worry about folding it exactly along the line shown in these origami dragon instructions. Just get as close as you can and it will be fine.
14) Now fold the tip back up again, and then fold it back the the left along the crease line you made, only this time, fold it inside of the neck instead of over it. This view from the back of the head should help you fold it the right way.
15) Now, about 1/4 of the way down the nose, fold the tip back inside of itself so that about 1/2 of the tip sticks out the back of the head like this.
16) Fold the tip back to the left again still making the the fold inside the head. Make the fold just a little bit before the end of the nose, so that there is a slight overlap as seen in this picture.
17) And now, about 1/5 of the way down the tip of the nose, starting from where it sticks out of the head, fold it back inside the head so that part of it sticks out the back again. It will take a little tweaking but in the end, it should look about like this from the top...
18) ...And like this from the side! Now, on line 2, fold the little right point over so that line 3 is right on top of line 1. Your dragon now has one leg! Do the same on the other side so that your dragon has two legs.
19) Then, on line 2. fold right tip of the dragon up so that line 3. lines up with line 1. Make a nice sharp crease and unfold.
20) Now, using the crease line that you just made, fold the right tip up...
...Inside of the model as shown here, so that your dragon has a tail!
21) Now, on the black line, fold the tail over to the left.
22) And then on the second line, fold the tip over to the right again.
Use this close-up as an example for folding.
The tail is now complete. You're making great progress with these origami dragon instructions.
23) Now, along the black line you see on the mid-leg, fold the lower portion to the inside and to the left.
24) And along the little black line, fold the tip to the inside and pointing down.
25) Repeat steps 23-24 with the other leg so that your dragon will possess two claws. One more thing and you'll be finished.
26) Crimp the neck along lines 1. and 2. so that...
...The head is inclined slightly forwards.
Notice in this close-up exactly what I mean by crimping. Make sure you do the same fold on both sides of the neck so that there is a little flap of paper on the outside of the neck.
If your dragon at all resembles this one, you've successfully completed these origami dragon instructions. You'll be a pro before you know it!
